Bill C. Potts
Bill’s 20-year battle has shaped his life and priorities.
He has had a successful work career, with FosterGrant, MIRUS, IRONMAN, Clearwater Marine Aquarium and as the co-founder of a marketing agency, Remedy 365. But Bill’s family is his priority and a big reason why he has fought so hard to beat cancer five times so far, with #6 in progress and #7 just a few years away.
Bill loves to run, is an IRONMAN athlete, and has found great purpose in writing this book. With a simple goal – to help others in their journey. The book gives purpose to the pain he has experienced.
Bill’s Cancer Fight Story
It all started when…
Bill’s cancer journey started innocently with the doctor at a check-up noticing a lump on his thyroid. That lump was cancerous, the thyroid was removed and he went through radiation treatment. Then, in the spring of 2008, after a trip to complete IRONMAN 70.3 in Cancun, Mexico, Bill noticed a lump below his right ear. That was the beginning of his battle with lymphoma. BIll’s lymphoma is not curable, yet, and he has now had it four times. Bill was diagnosed with cancer in 2002 (thyroid). Lymphoma in 2008, 2014, 2019 and 2020. Prostate cancer in 2020.
Bill has been treated at both Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville, Florida, as well as MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston and has benefited from cutting edge treatments. In fact, for his initial lymphoma treatment, he was in a clinical trial to receive immunotherapy, which then, had not made it mainstream yet. Bill has advocated for himself, with his wife’s help, throughout the journey. He has developed great relationships with his MD Anderson and Mayo care teams, as well as a host of others that help him through his journey.
Bill also advocates the importance of getting mental and emotional help for those going through it, as that has been a constant struggle for him. In fact, he would say this piece is more difficult than the physical piece, at times.
