Wednesday's Warrior: Bill Potts
Bill Potts beat thyroid cancer once.
Then, he overcame lymphoma twice, driving it into remission.
Unfortunately, his lymphoma is incurable, so it will come back someday. When it does, he’s ready to fight again.
“It changes your perspective and makes you really appreciate each day and be thankful for each day. And not sweat the small stuff so much. But to try to be positive and be encouraging and try to stay healthy and be ready for when it comes back,” Potts said.
To that end, Potts stays as active and fit as possible.
In fact, exactly three years after his first diagnosis with stage 3 lymphoma, he completed IRONMAN Texas.
“I want to be physically ready when it comes back,” Potts said.
Each day he lives life to the fullest.
“You have to get good with God. You work on your relationship with your family. You work on your relationship with your coworkers. You try to show more love. You try to be positive. You try to help others,” Potts said.
For the past two years, Potts has been the chief marketing officer for the Clearwater Marine Aquarium, a non-profit rescue, rehab and release facility in Clearwater, Florida.
It’s the home of Winter, the dolphin who doesn’t have a tail, made famous in the “Dolphin Tale” movies. He enjoys watching Winter inspire kids and adults missing limbs, Make-A-Wish kids, autistic kids, and all sorts of other people with special needs.
Potts lives his life to help others, to build a strong family, and and to relish in all the positive things life has to offer.
While he wishes he had never been diagnosed with cancer, he does believe cancer has made him a better person.
